Inspection Process

Purpose: To conduct inspection, testing, identification, and traceability of materials and products at various stages of production, ensuring compliance with IS standards and customer requirements.

Scope: This process includes inspection, testing, identification, and traceability from raw material receipt to in-process checks and final inspection before dispatch.

Procedure:

  • Direct Reduced Iron (D.R.I.): Iron ore and coal are tested for quality before processing. The produced sponge iron is analyzed for chemical composition and tracked batch-wise. Approved material moves to the SMS unit, while rejected material is sent for disposal.
  • Steel Melting Shop (SMS): Materials are melted at around 1800°C in an Electric Arc Furnace. Chemical composition is precisely controlled, and molten steel is prepared with required alloys before being sent for casting.
  • Continuous Casting Machine (CCM): Billets are visually inspected and tested. Defective materials are recycled, while approved billets are sent to the rolling mill with proper batch identification.
  • Rolling Mill: Billets are processed into finished TMT bars. Quality checks are performed at every stage, and non-conforming products are separated. Final products undergo inspection and are assigned lot numbers before storage.

Quality Assurance

The next level quality assurance includes inspection, correction, and investigation to identify root causes and implement actions to prevent recurring errors.

Total Quality Management

Total Quality Management (TQM)

Total Quality Management (TQM) is a comprehensive approach designed to achieve manufacturing excellence by integrating quality into every aspect of operations.

  • Total: Involves the entire organization.
  • Quality: Degree of excellence of a product or service.
  • Management: Planning, controlling, and directing resources effectively.

TQM is the systematic approach of managing the entire organization to consistently achieve excellence and long-term success.

Quality Management

PDCA Cycle (Plan–Do–Check–Act)

The PDCA cycle is a systematic approach used to ensure continuous improvement in processes and product quality.

  • Plan: Establish objectives and processes required to deliver accurate results in line with customer requirements and organizational policies.
  • Do: Implement the planned processes effectively.
  • Check: Monitor and evaluate processes and products against defined objectives and standards, ensuring compliance and proper reporting.
